After the first oopsie, came another slam deal, this time for our opponents.

I held as East:

KQ98
K742
T952
T

South ended up in 6C. Partner led the HA and dummy came down with:

42
QJ3
AKQ863
K7

Oh good, I thought, the opponents may be off the first two tricks (and
if declarer has a stiff heart, we are almost certainly not getting this
off). Dummy and declarer played low, and I encouraged with the H7.
Unfortunately it seems my H7 was not quite loud enough, and at trick two
my partner, for a reason I don't understand, switched to a low diamond.
Up went the ace in dummy and away went declarers losing heart. 6C made
on the nose for a 25% board for us. Again, only two other pairs found
the slam, both making (one made 13 tricks, didn't lead the HA
evidently), and one pair stopped in 3C. One EW pair found a sacrifice in
4S, which went two off, but on the lie of the cards six tricks are the
limit on best defence. Not that it mattered, NS didn't bother to double
so even best defence would only have gained them two extra matchpoints.

Despite dropping these couple of clangers, we ended up winning with 63%,
which probably illustrates the standard of the rest of the room.

Get a new partner Adam. This one is beyond hope.

This wasn't a regular partnership, she has asked me for a game a few
times so decided to give her one. These two boards were the only real
bad ones, the rest of the evening went well, which is why we won. It was
an evening where I got far more good hands than normal, declared more
than normal, and there is a correlation between my average hand HCP and
my final score. The evening was far more enjoyable than most in the last
year or so, largely because she is very good company.
