Partner opened, RHO overcalled 1S, I passed with a trump stack and
singleton in partners suit and waited for the reopening double.

We made 5 trump tricks but the contract made ! I do not remember ever
making 5 trump tricks defending a making contract.

This is most unusual. Can you post the hand please, Lorne?

E/W were vul (hence going for +200 with N). Obviously S could reopen
with 2C or N could have bid 1N or W could overcall 1N but to beat it I
think I have to lead a spade, partner underleads his clubs, I draw
trumps and cash clubs but I think that is a dream.

A spade lead followed by clubs from the top also defeats the contract, as eventually you will get to ruff a red suit and draw trumps. By the same token, the contract can also be defeated on a club lead. It is all about trump control - if declarer has to ruff first, then the contract goes down; if you have to ruff first, the contract makes.

But leading partner's suit does look marked...

Well, I always show up poorly in bidding polls when I reopen with 2C rather than double on this sort of hand.

So West overcalls on a filthy suit and gets rewarded for it. This sort of thing happens all the time at the clubs I play at, it is par for the course. Roll your eyes and carry on, and hope the evening doesn't drag on.

How can a minimum opener ever re-open with a double if hands like that North are going to pass?
