Club Swiss teams, IMP's and 30-point VP scale, both vul, West deals. We did not reach game on these cards, but the bidding shown seems reasonable.

(void) 9875
AQJ7 K643
AQJ85 9642
A853 2

1D - 1H
3S - 4H

Opening lead club 6. How do you rate 4H? Plan the play.

No takers? I always seem to overlook something when I analyze the play of hands, so I was hoping for some help. But I notice that partner has only 3 hcp, thought he had four plus the singleton. Hmm, I would probably pass his hand as he did.

So out actual bidding was:
1D-(p)-p-(x)
xx-(2S)-p-(p)
x-(p)-3D-all pass

Should partner have done more? Should I? Or does this belong in a partscore?

Try
1D-(p)-p-(x)
1H
Bid what you got.

4H is an enormous contract (only going off if hearts break 4-1 and the diamond finesse is wrong, plus some extreme breaks), and 5D is even better (only goes off if trumps are 4-0 offside, plus some extreme breaks). Nonetheless, this doesn't mean you should reach game. Change the king of hearts to the king of spades, and all games are markedly worse, but the bidding is likely to be the same.

Ruff a club, diamond finesse? I tried a layout where the DK is offside
and trump are 4-1, and it can't be made double dummy. If it is
friendlier than that I'm not real sure what can go wrong. If that wins
I'll ruff another club and repeat the finesse not really minding if
north ruffs this just trusting they aren't 1-1 in the reds. If it loses
and they force in spades, I'll rough another club and attempt to draw
trump hoping to lose only the diamond and a club at the end.
