North, dealer holds KJ65 Q5 A74 AKQ6
South holds T743 AK74 J32 32

E/W are silent
After 1C 1H what is North's second call? What would be South's next call?
Thanks in advance.

Depends on your system, Howard. Some people would bid 2S which I dislike; those who play Gazilli would bid 2C. Personally I have a 2NT gadget here which shows 18-19 and various hand types. Over this responder bids 3C to discover the hand type.

North rebids 2N. South rebids 3S showing precisely 4=4. I prefer
checkback to promise 5 hearts.

In standard methods opener bids 2NT, preferring it to 1S,
and responder raises to 3NT since 3S would promise 5H's.

One possibility is to play Wolff Relay where after

1m 1M
2NT

3C is a relay to 3D. Responder can escape from 2NT
by passing, bidding 3M, or 3H when M is spades.
Bidding on in clubs or NT is strong and promises clubs.
3S when M is hearts is GF with 4-4 in the majors.

On these two hands the bidding would go

1C 1H
2NT 3C
3D 3S
4S

Sounds a bit complicated to me
At least the system I was taught seems more easy to remember and get right:

With a 5 card M one would "improvise" with 3 in the unbid m
So after
1C - 1H
2NT- ??

3D would show 5 hearts
3S would show 4-4 M
and 3C would be a slamtry with clubs

Playing natural methods (so no Wolff, or Gazilli, or checkback, or NMF or any other gadget)

1C - 1H
2NT (18-19 bal) - 3S (4-4 majors FG)
4C (good hand, cue for spades) - 4S (minimum)
Pass

With 4 spades and 5 hearts you bid 3H over 2NT to show the 5-card suit. No need to invent a new suit. Opener raises hearts with 3 of them, bids spades with 4 of them, or bids 3NT.

There are lots of gadgets around for responder to distinguish between a 5-card heart suit and a 6-card one, or to ensure that opener (with the strong hand) bids spades first, but they aren't necessary, merely useful.

2N (18-19pts in most systems). Anything else shows an unbalanced hand.
When S bids 3S, N should cue 4C rather than simply raise but S is not
interested anyway so they will stop in 4S.

Playing Weak 1NT, I rebid 1S, which will not be a popular choice. If you play a check back Stayman sequence, it gets muddled some, which is why I call 1S. In addition, after 1H, it is not likely that you have wrong sided the no-trump if partner plays the hand. I would probably miss game and end in 3S, 15.5 combined loser count.

North bids 2n (18-19 balanced ) , I play 3d by south asks about majors (bidding 3s would show 5 hearts and 4 spades ) .North would bid 3s showing 4 spades. North with 3 hearts would have bid 3h and then south with 4 hearts would bid 3n telling north that south was interested in spades (has 4 spades ) then north would here bid 4s . All this is so North plays the hand .this system basically is from books of the late Max Hary . smn
